Do less, achieve more.

Updated: Oct 8, 2020

A big part of growth is about setting goals. But it’s not just about setting goals, it's about knowing the minimum actions you need to take to achieve them.

Many people don’t know about the second part. They think if they want to achieve their goal, they need to do as much as possible

Contrary to common belief, it’s often the subtraction of things that will lead to the biggest leaps in progress.

It’s not about doing more, but doing less.

Say you want to get fit.

It’s actually quite simple: Workout 3-5 times per week, eat healthy food, stay hydrated, and get good sleep.

With these 4 habits and a little bit of discipline, you’ll be fit in no time.

What happens though is that people start buying supplements, fancy shoes, diet plans, and fit-bits. And while these “tools” may have some positive benefit, they take away from what really matters.

Instead of having 4 things to focus on, you now have 8. And once you slip on only one of them, they all come crashing down. It’s a domino effect.

Taking supplements and wearing a fit-bit, will never get you fit. No matter how perfectly you use them.

By overcomplicating things, you’re avoiding what will actually lead to progress.

When you implement a new habit, the hardest part is getting it to stick. So what you need to do is optimize for it sticking, rather than getting perfect results.

It’s logical to want to put in 110%, do everything “perfect”, and try to “maximize” your results. But the truth is, it’s unsustainable. Trying to do everything will have you end up doing nothing.

By identifying which actions will have the most effect, and which will have the least, you’ll know where to concentrate your focus, what to ignore, and in turn, progress much quicker.

Instead of focusing on the many little things that will bring 20% of the results, focus on the few that will bring 80%. If the habit sticks, you’ll have plenty of time to implement the extras.

Do less, achieve more.
